Strollers AGM 2006
12 June 2006
On a sun soaked day, Strollers FC gathered together to watch the World Cup, get pissed, and briefly conduct their Annual General Meeting.
Season summary
Gray and Brown spoke briefly with plenty of comment from the floor about the previous season.
A first half of the season haul of 22 points was followed by an abysmal second half of the season return of only 11.
Whilst the second half of the season was a major disappointment, there were positives – second best defense in the league, a vastly improved goal difference, more points than last year, and a great improvement in the league position. Sadly it wasn’t the top three placing we were hoping for, but we’ve only ourselves to blame for that.
The season gone by is more a case of what might have been, but it does show that this team can perform when it wants to. It just has to want to more often, and we can hopefully improve again next season.
Departures
Sadly we wave goodbye to a fair few players this year, with Joe Dodd off to live in Australia, and Neil, Cal, Chris and Mikey going into semi or permanent retirement. They’ll all be sorely missed, and we wish them all good luck in the future.
Before they go there’s still the last hurrah of the North vs South and England vs Rest of the World games, or rather grudge matches, to look forward to.
Training
As in previous seasons, all agreed that we needed to train regularly, and it was decided that we would some Wednesday kick abouts as soon as the World Cup has finished.
The attendance policy for this will be casual, until August when the real training will begin.
New players
With the simple bribe of a few cans of bitter and a burger in the sun, Blackburn committed to the Strollers for next season. Levinger has also previously agreed to join up for next season, and there are a fair few players waiting in the wings, including two strikers, who will be asked to come training, once we start fully.
Finances
At the start of the season, we asked for a total of over £200 per player, but in the end we only needed £172 per head.
The team started off approximately £400 in the red, but ended up, prior to the AGM around £500 to the good. The AGM cost us around £300, and we should be able to cover a friendly at the start of season 06/07.
Next season all pay as you play games will be £7.50, and for regulars there will be a one off payment of £50 as a signing on fee, followed by £20 per month, which will be taken as a direct debit.
Current set up/new appointments
The team will stick with its current manager, assistant and captain. As Dodd is departing, a new vice captain was voted for with Lenny and Woz put forward as candidates, with Lenny voted in.
Barrett is to be retained as Finance Secretary, with O’Brien being previously barracked into performing the role of Fixtures secretary.
Awards
In all seven awards were dished out, with three outstanding service medals for the three retiring old boys.
In a piece of vote rigging to shame a small, emerging, recently democratised African nation, Gray was suitably stitched up to win the Dave Bruce Memorial Award with only one other candidate, Muhsin, gaining a single vote.
Player of the season was this year hotly contested, with Lennon and O’Flynn finishing as runners up to Strollers very own Mr Consistency, Chris Toussant.
Elsewhere, a begrudging Barrett relinquished his Top scorer mantle to the prolific Gray, whilst the least surprising result of the evening saw McNaught walk off with the Miss of the Season award.
Barrett’s scuffed, shinned, deflected (possibly) and toe poked effort against Shandytown was voted as the Goal of the Season,
Lastly, Bailey walked away with the You Used to Be Shit, But Now You’re Not award.
Photos
There are a few photos that will be uploaded as soon as there is a chance.

We finally got round to photographing the team before a game, though sadly the squad ‘heart-throbs’, Blackburn, Titler, McNaught and Muhsin, were missing.
